Brown rice with herbs
Cooking is a commonsense practice, not alchemy. Listening and watching closely while you cook will reveal a richly shaded language understood by all the senses - the degrees of a simmer, the aroma of a roast telling you it is done, the stages of elasticity of kneaded dough, the earthy scent of a vegetable just pulled from the ground - it is everything to mind these details. This is cooking. ~ Chez Panisse Cookbook

A Random Assortment
Lately I've had a lot of time to cook, which has been wonderful and delicious. It's especially nice to have some comfort at home when the winter here is still brutal.
Here are a few of the meals I've made recently, and amazing pancakes from my favorite breakfast place in Madison.
Steak, Truffle Mashed Potatoes, Sautéed Broccollini
Oatmeal and Applesauce Pancakes from Marigold Kitchen
