I haven't been posting very much because I've been really busy these last few weeks, but I'm finishing up work soon so I will try to be blogging more soon!
This is a Peach and Blueberry Crostata (from Ina Garten). She actually makes it with raspberries, but we only had blueberries so I used those instead and it was great. Richard says it is one of the best things I've ever made, but he might just be saying that because he loves peaches :)
Cooking is a commonsense practice, not alchemy. Listening and watching closely while you cook will reveal a richly shaded language understood by all the senses - the degrees of a simmer, the aroma of a roast telling you it is done, the stages of elasticity of kneaded dough, the earthy scent of a vegetable just pulled from the ground - it is everything to mind these details. This is cooking. ~ Chez Panisse Cookbook

Gjelina
This morning, Richard surprised me and took me to Gjelina in Venice. It was amazing, seriously one of my new favorite restaurants. This is what we had:
Pizza with burrata, squash blossom, cherry tomato, charmoula
Summer squash, shallots, spinach, cherry tomatoes, sunny eggs
Poached eggs with mushrooms, asparagus, parmesan breadcrumb
Potatoes with parmesan and truffle oil
Butterscotch pot de creme
Muffins
Richard and I made some great blueberry muffins, then decided to use the same base recipe and make up our own flavors. We made milk chocolate chip, blackberry and semi-sweet chocolate chip, and raspberry and white chocolate chip.
